作品についてAbout the work

In factories, machines inspect products in place of human eyes. Yet the way a machine “sees” is completely different from the way we do.

TIMELINE turns that difference into photographs. I built my own camera from a line sensor, a component used on factory lines.

Its pictures drift much further from reality than those of an ordinary camera — and in that gap, the boundary between human and machine seeing appears.

装置についてThe apparatus

TIMELINE apparatus

The work uses a handmade “scanner camera” based on the mechanism of a flatbed scanner. Where an ordinary camera captures the whole frame at once, this one reads the image line by line.

While shooting, I build the image in dialogue with the device through my own bodily sense. The video shows how it works.
