Re:sonance
A modified scanner that responds to music — seeing sound, hearing images.
作品についてAbout the work
A photograph is a still medium, but the world we actually experience also includes sound and bodily sensation.
Re:sonance is made with a scanner whose image changes in response to music. Like a DJ mixing tracks, it “samples” existing images.
Moving to the music, I shift the images on the scanner by hand. From this experience of “seeing” sound and “hearing” images, unpredictable pictures emerge.
装置についてThe apparatus
The scanner is modified using “circuit bending” — deliberately rewiring the circuits of an off-the-shelf device.
With a sound sensor and analog circuitry built in, the scanned image changes in real time with the pitch and rhythm of the music. The video shows how it works.
